CHANCELLOR COLLEGE SIGNS AN AGREEMENT WITH GOVERNMENT OF MALAWI ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION SUPPORT CENTER (TISC)

The University of Malawi, Chancellor College was one of the four institutions that signed an Institutional Agreement on setting up of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) with Malawi Government, through the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs (Department of the Registrar General) on their campuses at a colorful ceremony held at Capital Hotel in Lilongwe on 2nd December, 2016.

Signing on behalf of Chancellor College was Vice Principal, Professor Samson Sajidu and on behalf of Malawi Government was Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Honorable Samuel Tembenu, SC. The ceremony was witnessed by Minister of Education Science and Technology, Honorable Dr. Emmanuel Fabiano, the Registrar General Mr. Chapusa Phiri and the National Commission for Science and Technology (NCST) Director General, Mr. Anthony Muyepa.

The ceremony followed the official signing of a Service Level Agreement (SLA) between the Government of the Republic of Malawi and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on 4th October' 2016 in Geneva, Switzerland by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Honorable Samuel Tembenu, S.C.

The CHANCO TISC team is comprised of Dr. L. Eneya, Dean of Science and TISC project Team Leader, Dr. Chomora Mikeka, Deputy Dean of Science and Deputy Team Leader, Dr. Kondwani Munthali, Head of Science Department, Mr. E. Chizimba, Senior Assistant Registrar, Mr. Solomon Dindi, the ICT Director, Mr. Vuwa Phiri, College Librarian and Mr. Blessings P. Katuma, TISC Coordinator and Assistant Librarian.

Currently, the TISC is held in the main Library Building next to Special Needs Department. In due course the TISC will be moving to the ICT building being constructed close to the student’s cafeteria. The four institutions that were selected to host the TISCs include University of Malawi, Chancellor College, Malawi University of Science and Technology, Mzuzu University and the National Commission for Science and Technology. However, the Registrar General, Mr. Chapusa Phiri was quick to highlight that he is interested in ensuring that more centers are established across the country.
