Arab regional meeting concludes

The Arab regional meeting was co-organized by WIPO and the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP).

The purpose of the event was to review and discuss:

(i)         the situation of national TISC networks in the Arab region; and 

(ii)        opportunities for strengthening regional co-operation among national TISC networks in the Arab region, including the possibility of establishing a regional TISC network.

The event was attended by representatives from Algeria, Djibouti, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Sudan, and Tunisia as well as the League of Arab States, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Patent Office, and the GCC Intellectual Property Training Center.

The event was opened by Mr. Alejandro Roca Campaña, Senior Director, IP for Innovators Department, WIPO and Mr. Sami Al-Sodais, Deputy Chief Executive, IP Policy & Collaboration, SAIP.

The event highlighted the remarkable achievements made by national TISC networks in the Arab region in developing the extent of their networks and scope of services provided.

The co-organizer, SAIP, also drew attention to the activities and resources they have launched to support their national TISC network, including co-operation in training between TISC host institutions and digital platforms to track the situation and activities of TISCs.

The event concluded with a consensus to establish a regional TISC network under the auspices of the League of Arab States.
