The value of patent data cannot be stressed enough! For the investor, it means access to information concerning patents that may be the subject of interest for investment purposes. This data provides a plethora of information including helping to determine the patentability of inventions, the validity of existing patents and which technologies belong to the public domain, as well as how to try to avoid patent infringement.
In addition, patent data allows the investor to track research activities of competitors, to identify opportunities for licensing and joint ventures and to review trends in specific areas of technology.
