Strengthening Patent Awareness in Gujarat: GUJCOST’s Role as a TISC Centre

Submitted by MOHIN PATEL on

The Gujarat Council on Science and Technology (GUJCOST), operating under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat, is actively working to strengthen the innovation ecosystem in the state through its Patent Information Cell (PIC). As a recognized Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) under WIPO, GUJCOST plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between research, innovation, and intellectual property (IP) protection.

Through its TISC activities, GUJCOST has been providing patent search, drafting, and filing support to universities, startups, and MSMEs across Gujarat. These services not only help innovators safeguard their intellectual assets but also encourage a culture of innovation-driven entrepreneurship.

In addition, GUJCOST regularly conducts capacity-building workshops, training programs, and awareness seminars on intellectual property rights (IPR). These initiatives empower researchers, faculty members, and industry stakeholders with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the complex landscape of patents and technology commercialization.

By leveraging the global resources of WIPO’s TISC program and integrating them with local innovation policies, GUJCOST is steadily positioning Gujarat as a hub for intellectual property facilitation and innovation support in India. Moving forward, GUJCOST aims to expand its outreach, create more success stories in patent filings, and contribute to building a robust IP culture across academia, startups, and industries in the state.
