The WIPO-OAPI Meeting on the Development of an OAPI Sub-Regional TISC Network, was jointly organized in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on February 26 and 27, 2026, between OAPI and the World Intellectual Property Organization (World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO ) with the support of the Japan Patent Office (Japan Patent Office ). The meeting marks a first important step towards realizing a sub-regional TISC network since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in July 2025 between OAPI and WIPO.

"This project is not just a technical project, it is a vision. Intellectual property must be seen as a lever for development.", Mr. Guy Francis BOUSSAFOU, representative of the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI ), Director of Patents and Other Technical Creations at OAPI. He began the meeting quoting the Director General of OAPI, Mr. Denis L. BOHOUSSOU.

How do we move beyond the commitment in principle and towards concrete actions to develop a true regional ecosystem with an integrated vision where TISCs and OAPI's Intellectual Property Documentation Centers (IPDCs) work together to support innovation and creativity in the region?
This was at the heart of the meeting, and WIPO officials, Ms. Nathalie Montillot and Mr. Elangi Ituku-Botoy, participated in exchanges with focal points of the national TISC networks in the region and OAPI on this subject.
