As part of its COVID-19 response package, WIPO released the Patent Landscape Report on COVID-19-related vaccines and therapeutics in a virtual launch event held on 10 March 2022. The event, which was attended by over 700 participants representing 93 countries, featured opening remarks by the Director Generals of WIPO, WHO, and WTO, followed by a presentation of the key findings of the report.
A panel discussion was held next, where the panelists discussed recent developments in vaccine platforms and therapeutics, R&D partnerships, and how the patent system contributed to the pandemic response. You can watch a recording of the event at: https://c.connectedviews.com/05/SitePlayer/wipo?session=114835
The report looked at patenting activity related to COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics from January 2020 through September 2021 and patent distribution across vaccine platforms and drug classes. The report also includes information on clinical trials based on data from WHO, the Milken Institute and RAPS. There are also examples of important vaccine development timelines and information to help you understand different types of vaccines and therapies, along with their mechanism of action.
