The WIPO Regional Meeting for the Development of TISC Networks in Central Asia, in collaboration with the National Institute of Intellectual Property (Qazpatent) and supported by the Japan Patent Office (JPO), took place in Astana, Kazakhstan, on December 3 and 4, 2024.

“We welcome this unique opportunity to exchange ideas with countries in the region,” said Ms. Botagoz Zhaxelekova, Vice-Minister of Justice of Kazakhstan, opening the Meeting. The event set the stage for an exciting exchange of knowledge and insights.

Some topics that were covered during the event included:

  • New Developments in the Global TISC Program;
  • TISC Development Highlights and Future Plans; 
  • Building a Sustainable TISC Network; and
  • Opportunities for Regional TISC Cooperation and Integration with Techno-Park Activities.

Delegates joined from across Central Asia and the wider Eurasian region came together to share best practices and strategies for building sustainable TISC networks. Discussions focused on strengthening the region's IP innovation ecosystem, and for the first time, technoparks participated in the dialogue.

Their involvement opens up new avenues for collaboration, ensuring that TISCs' and innovation support services seamlessly integrate with technopark activities - creating a vibrant, interconnected innovation ecosystem that supports local researchers, inventors, and entrepreneurs from idea to market.

Following the Regional Meeting on the Development of TISC Networks in Central Asia, another equally important Regional Conference on the WIPO - EAPO Regional Meeting for Techno-Parks, which was organized by WIPO, the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO) and in cooperation with the National Institute of Intellectual Property (Qazpatent), Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, kicked off on December 5 until December 6, 2024. This session will spotlight IP marketing strategies, featuring insights from international experts.

This emerging network, with the potential to integrate into broader initiatives like the TISC networks, is poised to become a transformative force. By fostering regional IP markets and facilitating technology-driven business transactions, it promises to unlock new opportunities for innovation and economic growth across the region.
